What is Rush?
Rush is the time at the beginning of Fall and Spring semester where the rushee (you) have the opportunity to learn more about Kappa Phi Lambda and the Sisters as well. Of course, it's a chance for us to get to know you better! During this time period, we hold variety of fun events for rushees to attend and the events are all free. In the past, we had Game Night & BBQ with Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, Dumpling Night, Kappa Craft, Mocktail Night, and many more. There are no commitment or promises that need to be made during rush time. Just be yourself and have fun !

Do you have to be Asian in order to join?
Of course not! We have many different nationalities represented within Kappa Phi Lambda (French, Spanish, German and many more), and as a cultural sorority we encourage diversity and the last thing we would do is discriminate. KPL is an Asian-interest sorority, not Asian exclusive!

What are the requirements to join? What is a bid?
If you like what you see during Rush, then you can sign up for an interview with us. However, in order to be eligible for an interview, you must attend at least 2 events and 1 general interest meeting. Also you must be currently attending UCONN and have at a G.P.A. of at least a 2.5. If you pass the interview, you are given a bid, which is an invitation to participate in the process of becoming a Sister of Kappa Phi Lambda. After you get a bid, you have at least 24 hrs to decide whether to accept it or not. If you do accept the bid, you will move on to the next step: intake process!

What is the intake process?
The intake process is a period of time that youand your line sisters (other girls who accept the bid) will go through to learn more about our sorority and the Sisters. It's a journey to becoming part of the Sisterhood. You will learn, grow, bond with your linesisters and the Sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda. There are no specific guidelines on how long it will be, or how hard, but the point of the intake process is to challenge you and teach you more about yourself, your line sisters, and the sisters of KPL.

The intake process is difficult. There's no nice way to say that. It's also a BIG time commitment, and one not to be taken lightly. Also on that note, if you work hard for something, you'll appreciate it that much better when you do earn it, and it's the exact same way for the intake process. If you don't try your hardest, then the experience of sisterhood won't be as meaningful without the effort. Even though it is a BIG time commitment, we had Sisters that held jobs, took more than 14 credits, went through the intake process and were able to maintain a 4.0 G.P.A. So work, school, and pledging at the same time is possible. It's all about about time management. If you know how to manage your time and schedule, then you'll be fine. Also, the Sisters are happy help you at anytime. You're here at UCONN to study and that should definitely be your first priority!

How do I know if the sorority is right for me?
There's no one RIGHT reason to join a sorority, but there are a lot of benefits, such as being able to have that lifetime of Sisterhood. However, there are a lot of WRONG reasons to join. Some of them being: "Because I want to meet people," "Because I think fraternity guys are hot!" "Because I want to party!" "Because I miss my friends from back home," "Because the sisters seemed SOOO nice!" Now that last one's a tricky one. During recruitment, every organization is going to put on its best face to encourage people to come out to their events. It's going to be really hard for you to tell if they're being genuine, or if it's a front that they put up so that you'll join. The best bet is: if you find that the values of the organization to coincide with your own, and that they organize events that you'd like to be a part of, or help organize, then it's probably a good fit for you.
