What is "Rush" anyway?
Rush is a time when you can acquaint yourself with all the organizations on campus so you can make sure that you find yourself the right one. One of the most important things to remember is to keep an open mind. Kappa Phi Lambda's rush provides an opportunity for all those interested to come out and get to know our Sisters and see what we're about. Our rush is designed especially for you to be able to come out and have a good time, providing a relaxed environment for you to ask questions and interact with our Sisters. And best of all, everything is free!

To Summarize...
  • All rush events are free.
  • Rushing is not a binding contract. There are absolutely no commitments or promises made during rush, so don't worry about feeling any kind of obligations. This is just a time for us to get to know each other in a comfortable and relaxed environment.
  • In order to qualify for an interview, you must attend a General Interest Meeting (GIM) & TWO other rush events.

Rush FAQs

Why Kappa Phi Lambda?
A sorority is defined as: A chiefly social organization of women students at a college or university, usually designated by Greek letters. Well, Kappa is so much more. What makes us different from a club is that we are founded on the idea of Sisterhood. A Sister is always there to lend an ear, to give a helping hand, to share your happiness with. Sisterhood is eternal.
Be a leader and not a follower. As one of the fastest growing organizations of its kind, be a part of the foundation, don't just be another face. There are unlimited opportunities to meet new people, network, and prepare for your future. Build strong leadership qualities that are invaluable.
With Kappa, there is never a dull moment. With year long commitments to community service, our philanthropy, and of course mixers and parties, your college career is sure to be a well-rounded one.

Do I have to be Asian to join?
Absolutely not! Although our interest is mainly in issues that affect the Asian-American community, we are open to the issues & people of other cultures and countries. One of the best parts of Kappa Phi Lambda is the diversity and uniqueness each Sister brings to the sorority. Kappa Phi Lambda is an Asian interest sorority but we do not exclude ourselves to only Asian sisters. We have many sisters of different nationalities represented within Kappa Phi Lambda and being a cultural sorority, we promote cultural diversity, amongst other values. We are an Asian interest sorority, not Asian exclusive.

What is a "bid?" How do I get one?
At the end of rush, we give out "bids" - our way of inviting you to pledge for the sorority. To be considered for a bid, you need to attend at least 1 GIM and 2 rush events, as well as go through an interview process. If you receive a bid, you have 24 hours to consider it and come back to us and tell us whether or not you'd like to take the next step -- the intake process.

What is the "intake process?"
The intake process is a learning period when you journey into becoming a sister. There are no specific guidelines on how long it will be, or how hard, but the purpose of intaking is to challenge you and teach you more about yourself, your line sisters, and the sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda. Kappa Phi Lambda strictly abides by the rules and beliefs behind positive intaking. There is never a moment that Kappa Phi Lambda would put you in an embarrassing or harmful situation. To emphasize this fact, every semester we attend seminars on hazing and alcohol/substance abuse.

Will intaking affect my grades?
